Waste Levy

The Waste to Resources Fund is made up primarily of 50% of the levy paid by waste depot licence holders under the Environment Protection Act 1993.

The levy is collected by the Environment Protection Authority, and a portion is transferred to the Waste to Resources Fund, which Zero Waste SA draws on to achieve its objectives.

The solid waste levy is as follows:

  • metropolitan Adelaide from 1 September 2016 to 30 June 2017 - $76 a tonne
  • non-metropolitan Adelaide from 1 September 2016 to 30 June 2017 - $38 a tonne.

The Government has announced that solid waste levy is intended to rise to the following rates per tonne:

  2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
Metro $87 $100 $103
Non-metro $43.50 $50 $51.15
