Market Development Grants 2008
Zero Waste SA has awarded market development grants to six local companies, which will help cement the state's reputation as one of the nation's best recyclers.
The grants, worth $311,650, will support the research and development of waste materials to enable reprocessing into new, value-added products for domestic and commercial use.
The grants focus on recycling some challenging wastes, such as foundry sands and contaminated soils, which will help to achieve South Australia's Strategic Plan target of reducing waste to landfill by 25 per cent by 2014.
Remediate - $50,000 to enable investigations into the likely quantities of contaminated soil that will be generated in South Australia. Remediate will help develop a quality assurance process to successfully remediate these soils for reuse in building and landscaping applications, which will become increasingly important with South Australia's impending economic boom and investment in infrastructure.

Dr Richard Stewart, Remediate Managing Director
ARRB Group - $90,000 for a project to encourage collaboration in the construction and demolition recycling industry. South Australia recycles close to one million tonnes of waste building and demolition materials annually. Strengthening markets for these materials will reduce a reliance on quarry products and help keep the waste materials out of landfill.
BSmart - $70,000 to increase the market for brick pavers made from recycled building materials.
Hallett Resources - $51,650 assist in pursuing opportunities to use recycled concrete for residential slabs and pre-cast tilt-up wall panelling for residential construction.
Jeffries Group - $32,000 to assist with the development of an improved compost suitable for broad-acre markets.
Green Outside - $18,000 to develop an on-site testing regime to enable recycling of used foundry sands into a range of products such as paving sand, top-dressing for artificial turf, soil products and fill sand.
