Common Questions

How can Zero Waste SA help me?

Zero Waste SA provides guidance, support and information to assist organisations to improve their waste management. We do not collect waste or recyclables, and do not provide direct funding to organisations for recycling services or bins. Organisations may be eligible for assistance through the Zero Waste SA Industry Program

What is the best recycled paper to use in our office?

Zero Waste SA cannot recommend any particular brand of paper - there are new ones coming onto the market all the time, and changes made to existing products. Environmentally preferable papers for general office use should:

  • be 100% recycled, or have a high percentage recycled contenthave a specified level of post consumer content (50% at a minimum)
  • not use chlorine or chlorine compounds for bleaching.

Waste Management and Environment Media (WME) have produced a guide for business and industry to make more sustainable paper and printing choices. Download the Green Purchasing: Paper + Print  guide from the WME website (PDF).

How do I get people to recycle?

The recycling systems are there - but people just won't use them! Or worse, they put the wrong things in the wrong bins and ruin a whole load of recycling that stands a good chance of being rejected once it gets to a sorting facility - and ends up going to landfill! Read our guide to bringing about behaviour change (PDF 75Kb)– one of the most difficult tasks in any endeavour.

What can we do with old office equipment that’s too good to throwaway?

For outdated computers and electrical equipment (E-waste) see our information at Just Ask Zero Waste SA. Also consider  sites that offer products and materials for free via the Internet - see a list of give away sites here.
