Making the environment part of core business
As the State Government’s lead agency for climate change, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) decided to lead by example in tackling sustainability targets for its own operations. A task group was established to critically examine all areas of business operation and develop an action plan and policies to improve the environmental sustainability performance of the department.
A comprehensive recycling system has helped DPC achieve the ultimate in waste management – total diversion from landfill for the SAC site – while a range of other initiatives has reduced energy usage, carbon emissions and ongoing costs.
