RM Williams and Zero Waste SA
Less wastage, less cost
RM Williams' Salisbury operations have shifted landfill bound waste to recycling, reduced use of new resources and reduced energy consumption. RM Williams' strategy has brought ongoing improvements in productivity, recycling and energy conservation.
By adopting new methods for continuous improvement and establishing training work teams to identify and implement process improvements the company avoided 7.9 tonnes of leather scrap last year and re-used 2000 boxes. In just five years, this iconic Australian company has reduced its annual contribution to landfill from this plant by 76 tonnes, and electricity consumption by 84,492 KWh/yr. As prices for these services continue to rise, so will the company's savings.
Zero Waste assisted with a desktop and walk through waste assessment. From this base, the company could deploy its resource efficiency endeavours to those areas of most need and offering maximum benefit.
