Some other green options to consider
Zero Waste SA made a range of sustainable choices – but, of course, other green options exist.
A number of other products that are sustainable and worthy of consideration by those undertaking green fitouts were identified over the course of this project, including during preparation of the case study report. Most were identified by EcoSpecifier during the workshop they conducted, or were sourced from their website.

Refrigerators and dishwashers
More cool choices … and trade-offs: Products with similar specifications to those selected and better expected energy performance are available in Australia. They include the Liebherr KP4260 and Kes4260 fridges (expected annual energy consumptions of 200 kWh and 335 kWh respectively); and various four-star-rated dishwashers by ASKO and BOSCH (with annual consumption as low as 225kWh per annum, about 20% lower than the product chosen).
Those alternatives are, however, more expensive and, in terms of sustainability, the fridges have a higher level of embodied energy because they are imported products, and the dishwashers are less water-efficient than the product chosen by Zero Waste SA.
