How Zero Waste SA Is Managing Its Own Impacts

In February 2006, Cabinet approved the Greening of Government Operations (GoGO) Action Plan as a requirement for all State government agencies to manage the impacts on the environment that arise in the course of carrying out their business.

The GoGO Action Plan pdf icon (296 kb) sets out a series of milestones agencies need to achieve, including development of an Implementation Plan for each agency to give effect to the GoGO Action Plan.

The Greening ZWSA Implementation Plan will be given effect through the following mechanisms:

  • a Task List (by assigned officer and by date) has been extracted from the Plan and items fed into the staff meeting agenda for action; and
  • identified greening responsibilities of all staff has been fed into a Greening ZWSA Behaviour Charter for discussion with staff and induction for new employees/contractors

A template version of ZWSA's Plan is offered for any worksite or organisation that wishes to use it:

The plan was designed so that it could be flexible and adapted for use in that the Objectives and Actions are likely to be consistent regardless of which organisation is using the plan (ie. we are all working to minimise energy demand, choose water efficient appliances etc).

Many of the Tasks will also be consistent, so they have been left in the template version, although the time frame/responsiblity detail which relates specifically to ZWSA has been removed. Worksite/organisational specific tasks and detail can then be added or removed as needed.

Other GoGO Action Plan Milestones which will be actioned as the Greening ZWSA Implementation Plan takes effect are:

Milestone 4:  Set performance goals/internal targets (informed by SA’s Strategic Plan targets and/or other targets agreed by Cabinet)

Milestone 6:  Reported on status/progress in reaching performance goals/targets

Milestone 8:  Undertaking ongoing measuring, monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement of performance
