in nature nothing is wasted

The Zero Waste Lifeline artwork is located in the Range Wetlands, Adelaide, South Australia.

The project won a Commendation in the Design Institute of Australia 2007 South Australian Design Awards.

The three circular forms of Zero Waste Lifeline remind us of the closed loop systems of Nature where everything is reused and there is no waste. We are also reminded to use only the necessary minimum, to recover, reuse, recycle, and to eliminate landfill.

By avoiding or reducing our use of materials and energy we also slow down climate change and extend resource availability to future generations.

If we are to move to a sustainable society, we need to make fundamental changes to our behaviour and show respect for our environment: "Australians seem to live with a contradiction. They express concern about the environment yet live materialistic lifestyles that result in high levels of waste."
