Metropolitan Reuse & Recycling Infrastructure Grants

The primary objective of the reuse and recycling infrastructure grants is to increase the capacity for local reprocessing of recyclable material to high value end use products and invest in infrastructure that enables greater reuse of waste materials.

Materials recovery facilities in other states and overseas are increasing the level of technology employed in sorting materials (such as laser sorting of plastic polymers) which greatly increases both the cost efficiency of sorting materials and the recovery rates from these facilities.

Reuse centres have recently been commissioned in the ACT, New South Wales, and Victoria to increase the reuse, repair and disassembly of products. There is potential to increase the level of reuse of products by investing in similar facilities in South Australia.

Funding available
Applications for grants from $100,000 to a maximum of $300,000 (excluding GST) per project are now sought. The grant contribution must not be more than 50% of the total project costs (excluding in-kind contributions). Applications for infrastructure that leads to reuse of large volumes of material either through refurbishment or repair may apply for smaller funding amounts (minimum of $50,000).

Applications for this program closed at 5pm on Friday, 16 November 2007.
