Zero Waste SA Research Centre
The Zero Waste SA Research Centre, a partnership between Zero Waste SA and the University of SA has been established to:
- Build long term capacity in research activities at the higher levels of the waste hierarchy
- Create a focal point for waste-related research.
South Australia’s Waste Strategy 2005-2010 and the Draft South Australia’s Waste Strategy 2010 – 2015 recognises that achieving behavioural change in waste avoidance, reduction and resource efficiency requires innovative approaches, such as offered by this partnership.
Over time, the Centre will build local expert knowledge in waste-related research and develop a pool of students that can be drawn on for projects. The following research areas are of particular interest to Zero Waste SA:
- Behavioural change and the psychology of consumption
- Measuring consumption and the ecological footprint
- Resource efficiency and life cycle measurement
- Decision making in economic, social and environmental modelling
Zero Waste SA already promotes research and development into reducing waste through its industry-based Market Development Grants program and the Compost for Soils project, a collaboration with the South Australian Research Development Institute.
